Books with pictures - and pictures for books
We know from long experience how important pictures are to many authors. Much of the appeal of factual books, particularly personal memoirs and family histories, lies in the illustrations, whether they are family snapshots old or new, photos illustrating your business career, technical illustrations, family trees, creative works or location maps.
We understand imaging - Chris Newton is an accomplished photographer, and designer Ray Lipscombe is a semi-professional photographer. We’ll advise you on the pictures you plan to include, and scan or copy your images to make the best of them (returning them safely when we’ve finished). We can also redraw family trees and prepare maps of important locations from your brief and from internet sources.
We advise being choosy about the pictures you include – too many blurred or poor-quality snaps will let down the quality and appeal of your book, though this is less important if the book is for family and friends only. Images copied from web pages or printed material will probably be far below reproduction quality and will let down the quality of your book, aside from potential copyright issues, so they are best avoided if possible. However, we may be able to source suitable high-quality images, eg of important places or people who have featured in your life, from an online photo archive.
If you wish, we can carry out photography for you.
